21st. Sunday In Ordinary Time.

Sometimes when we are watching a film there is a person in the film whom we don’t know who they are or what they are doing. And we are impatient and we want to find out who they are. And someone says to us, be patient and you will see; as the movie goes on, you understand everything. Many years ago in a little village in Palestine, there lived a boy called Jesus, and he was the son of a carpenter and so he was known as the son of the carpenter; then he grew and he became a carpenter himself, and he was known as the carpenter. Then he began to teach and he became the teacher, and then he began to work great miraces and they called him the prophet. One day he was with his friends, the twelve apostles, and he stopped and looked at them and said, who am I for you; who do you think that I am? Eleven kept silent, and one of them, Peter, said: you are Christ, the Son of God.’ Peter did not always get everything right, and he really let Jesus down when Jesus needed him most; but this was the perfect answer. Jesus gave him the keys, and made him his Vicar on earth. But the question that Jesus asks today, is not just for Peter, it is for you and it is for me. Who is Jesus for you? Who is Jesus for me? Is he somebody you read about in a book? Is he the man on the cross? is he your saviour? Is he your best friend? Or maybe you might say I’m not quite sure, I don’t reall know who he really is. Well today Jesus looks into your eyes and your heart and asks you who am I for you? You can give your answer and no one else will know your answer. Tell Jesus who he is for you today? Who is Jesus Christ for me? Our answer must be personal. Many people know a lot about the Bible, the teachings of Jesus Christ but they didn’t know is Jesus Christ for them. We can very easily fall into a rut, a habit, we turn into robots, and then we wonder why we get so bored with our religion. Who is Jesus for you, can he rely on you?
